Hello everyone! Little update concerning my webcomic -
Firstly, I want to thank everyone who’s read and responded to my comic either through smackjeeves or on my social media pages - It feels surreal that anyone would be interested in following me on what’s been a real journey for me as I create and self-publish my first long-form comic, as well as following Hector and the others on the journey I’ve laid out for them. I’ve gotten lovely messages, been introduced to some really cool people and found a strange confidence in my work being better than what I would think it would be. Before now, I would always pull back on projects like this in favour of waiting until I was “good enough”, which would end up being never against my own standards. Thank you so so much for seeing my work as good enough.
That being said, my weekly-update schedule contradicting with my search for work, my daily responsibilities and other commitments has put quite a lot of strain on me. And within the last week or so, events have caused everything to crumble on top of me. I still want to update weekly, but with a constant looming deadline adding more strain to me on top of everything else, I don’t feel I can go on at this pace. I have a number of decisions to make going forward, each one having been considered carefully, but I know that I can’t keep going as I am currently.
So, I’m going to be taking three months out from updating on a weekly basis. During this time, I will still be working on The Devil’s Advocate to create a backlog of work that will last me for a while once regular weekly updates resume (possibly even twice a week if I get enough done!), but these will not be public. This break also gives me a good span of time to clear my head and actually start having fun, without freaking out constantly about being away from my tablet for too long or feeling terrible for taking time where I could be drawing to do other things that will help me destress.
I’m aware that it’s a long space of time to go without updating, but giving myself double the amount of time to work on a single page (6 pages until the end of Chapter 1) should give me more room to breathe. Ideally, I would’ve liked to have the whole of the first chapter under my belt before taking a short break to restart a backlog, but as previously mentioned, last week has made me realise that I won’t be able to make it to the next page at this rate.
I’m overjoyed with TDA, and I feel like I’ve left it on a good note in the narrative for now. In the meantime, I’ll keep uploading social media with different bits and bobs for you guys (sneak peaks, WIPs, character sketches, non-comic stuff) so you’re not being completely robbed! You can find me in instagram, facebook and twitter @abbiebsart, and on tumblr at devilsadvocatecomic.
At the risk of sounding like a broken record, thank you for your patience with me and my corner of the internet. Updates will resume on the 1st of August on their weekly basis! Until then, I’ll see you all around <3
